Roofing in cold weather

Whoo! it was cold out there today! We have to be careful with the pressure settings on our nail guns or the nails blow right through the shingles. And if the nail blows through you will have blow-offs.

Make your roof last 30 years

Today we replaced a roof in Limerick PA. I don't know how old the roof was, but the shingles were really not in bad shape. Possibly the only reason it needed replaced was because of shingles constantly blowing off the roof. It had been repaired a couple different times and had a couple pretty big spots where shingles were missing.

It was an excellent lesson on proper nailing of shingles. Almost all the shingles were nailed to high and were overdriven, as in driven almost right through the shingle. It really drove home the reason we guarantee our roofs for 10 years. We also stress proper nailing over speed. Our warranties are also transferrable. Such as, the warranty stays with the home if it gets sold.

So it might be a good idea to ask your roofer if he has had trouble with shingles blowing off. Also make sure he covers the cost if shingles do blow off.

As usual you can post any questions or comments.
